Porto, a charming city of Portugal

Lisbon always gets the fame, but when I was in Portugal, the city that I liked the most was Porto. The reason is hidden in warehouses, bridges and churches. I was really surprised because this city goes unnoticed in the routes of travelers who visit Portugal.

Not to be missed…

Strolling down the steep streets is the first thing you must do when arrival to Porto. My advice is that you begin from the top, as there are many slopes. You can always take a tram if you're tired, but my recommendation is to visit the city on foot.

The old town is wonderful. Heritage, it is mandatory to enjoy their colorful marble facades that give a twist to the city and its hundreds of churches that fill the view everywhere you look.

At the top, we find the famous Dos Clerigos Church, where his tower of 75 meters high and more than 200 steps.

Do not forget to visit the Cathedral of Porto, located in the neighborhood of Batalha, and one of the most emblematic buildings of the city, as well as the City Hall, the Stock Exchange and the Episcopal Palace.

For me, the most beautiful and curious church is San Nicolau, its facade covered in blue tiles that will make you stop to take a picture automatically.

Everything seems to come to the river walk, where are located the famous Gaia Port and Luis I Bridge, built by a disciple of Gustave Eiffel.

If you want to go shopping, it's best to go though Rua Santa Catarina and then rest from a exhausted morning, take a hot drink at the famous Cafe Majestic and test their "creams", similar as cupcakes from Belem.

A very special evening

Nothing like a walk in the Ribera del Duero, enjoy the breeze, take a green wine on a terrace next to the bridge as you watch the sunset, sitting down to dinner a tasty cod in one of its restaurants of the riverside .

Treat yourself

The famous publisher Conde Nast has awarded this year to The Yeatman with the Excellence Award at the best hotel in Europe and the Mediterranean. The restaurant has a Michelin star awarded and was also honored in 2012 for its extensive wine cellar. But not only their prizes worth the stay at this magnificent hotel also their rooms so well maintained and its proximity to the famous wineries of the city.

For wine lovers

If you go to Porto in September or October, you can take advantage of the harvest time in the region of the Douro, and perform a different route through the villages full of vineyards: Pinhao, Covelinhas, Lamego and Régua weight.

And if what you have in mind is to test the most international Portuguese wine in the city of Porto, across the Douro River, in Vila Nova de Gaia, you have the most famous wineries where you can enjoy a wine tasting tour (Sandeman, Taylor, Calem ...).
