Sunrise hot air balloon ride in Masai Mara

Africa certainly live footprint on who has traveled to this wonderful continent before. It’s an incredible experience that I’m looking forward to repeat, and I'm sure that will happen when I least expect it. But surely, a unique day in my safari in Kenya for Masai Mara National Park was the sunrise hot air balloon ride.

If you travel to Kenya with an agency, do not forget to ask them for a quotation of the tour, and if you go on your own, you can book the tour with one of the many agencies engaged in balloon ride over Masai Mara National Park, or what is more convenient, hiring directly at the lodge or hotel that you may be staying. I'm not going to lie to you, is an expensive tour, but definitely worth it, as it is a once in a lifetime experience.

That morning you wake up really soon, still dark outside, since at 5 in the morning you have to be in the place where the balloon takes off. But, as always, get up early for a tour well worth it and it costs nothing! You have to imagine at night on a SUV crossing Masai Mara, with all the sounds of hyenas and many nocturnal animals that we passed by. Adrenaline up!

We arrived at the takeoff area and some people were inflating the balloon, orange and yellow colors, looked like a big light lamp in the middle of the savannah. We were a group of 10 people, including the person who handled the balloon and the guide who explained everything to the smallest detail.

The flight takes about 90 minutes and the views from the top are spectacular. Everything seems so small and insignificant...

As it was the Great Migration season, we were lucky to observe, like a bird, millions of wildebeest and zebras everywhere. And do not miss the division of the border with Tanzania, the contrasts of green and brown colors, the tiny giraffes and elephant families. I felt like an invisible being who enjoy watching the daily wildlife of Masai Mara. Quite exciting!

If takeoff is impressive, landing is definitely better. You put yourself in position, with knees bent and try to be relaxed, which is impossible. Suddenly you notice a small drop onto the ground and balloon basket turned, finishing all lying on the ground.

After spending an hour having breakfast among the spectacular savannah surrounded by wild animals, it was time to go back to our SUV.

Sunrise hot air balloon ride over Masai Mara was unforgettable. And then, I can’t stop thinking, when we repeat?
